A few years ago, we (Aimee, Diana, Lyn and I) decided to make a fan project about why we love our favorite character Peter Bishop, and with the help of the amazing Fringe fans we were able to list 100 reasons.  Last week Tiffany suggested that it would be fun to make another one, so here we go! :)

The ‘reasons why Peter Bishop is perfect’ challenge:

-  You can make edits, gifs, picspams, graphics, screencaps, anything you want. Just tag your edits with 'genecowan' and we’ll reblog them.

If you can’t or don’t have the time, you can also submit by just sending us the reason via message and we’ll try our best to provide the photo for you.

Feel free to join us starting from next Friday, the 20th. You can submit as many times as you want.

Apologies for the long post ahead…

These are just some quick thoughts on yesterday’s big announcement that Amazon wants to get into the fanfic business. I’m not a fanfic author, but I’m a fan artist and so my concerns and hopes are probably the same as yours. This is relevant to fan art as well……

Fan Culture exists because fans do not WANT to be under any corporate control. Even with Fringenuity we were nervous about teaming up with FOX. I can tell you a good story about how WB and FOX treated those who organized the Fringe Event convention in Vancouver. Short lesson: They don’t want you to play unless it’s with their rules. Even if you play by the rules, they scoff at you.

You can see how major networks try to direct fan activity now. They take everything fans have done on their own and use it. Memes? Custom hashtags? Fan art? These have long been entrenched in fan communities, and the corps are trying to control them.

The fans have promoted shows better than their paid employees in many cases.

I hope that the small and tight-knit Fringe fanfic community avoids this like the plague if it expands to our world.

 Amazon: Destroyer of fanfic worlds.

It may get to a point where fans will have to have informal conventions and exchange real fan fiction and art in person or by mail again. -_-

Fringe Mother’s Day

Fringe is a story about love on many levels. Many saw mostly the father and son emphasis, but there was a lot about mothers, too.

"Oh, God. Oh, my baby."

- Elizabeth Bishop, Peter

"Oh, yes. My mother loved Chandler and another writer called Dashiell Hammett. She loved detective stories. Oh! And musicals! She adored musicals! She often would dress me up to play parts in plays at school. I was roughed up quite a lot as a child."

- Walter Bishop, Brown Betty

My mother… your grandmother… gave it to me before she died. She told me that it would keep me safe. So now I’m giving it to you.”

Over There, Part I
